  • From Ashley, Krittika, Kenzie, Willa, Sasha, and Greg [6-Dec-2008]: Yesterday we were treated to a construction tour of Worcester's new Central Rock Gym by it's owners, Joe and Ed. It was exciting to get a firsthand look at the facility, which is scheduled to open in early Spring. Get the inside scoop and see photos from our visit right here.

  • From Nora Oliver '10 [10-Sep-2008]: I have made it to Australia and have been here for a few days now. We are living in the middle of the rainforest with one main building and smaller cabins not far away. I will be studying rainforest ecology, forest management and socio-economic issues that will be coupled with a directed research project. It is quite remote where I am...going into town requires a 40 minute drive onto the tablelands. It is beauitful with lush rainforest and all sorts of new animals for me to learn about. I feel my inner-geek/nerd emerging! We will be doing lots of hiking, swimming in crater lakes, snorkling, and exploring all sorts of Australian environments. [Read more of Nora's down-under adventures throughout the semester in her Yarns from Yungaburra blog!]

  • From Dan Adams '07 [5-Aug-2008]: Over the 4th of July weekend I took a little backpacking trip through Colorado's Indian Peaks Wilderness. It was probably the best trip I've ever been on in one of the most stunningly beautiful backcountry areas I've ever visited.

Two of the things that made it such a sucessful trip were my ability to keep the weight I was carrying to a minimum, and the fact that I was able to bike to and from the trailhead. I found many challanges which made the trip exciting... but not too exciting. I was able to navigate those challanges to get home safely. I did my best to capture some of the beauty that surrounded me, but 384 pictures later, it still seemed impossible. Anyways, here are the best of the photos.

  • From Elizabeth Waste [26-Dec-2006]: Check out some highlights of my summer 2006 backpacking trip through the mountains of the Mediterranean island of Corsica.

  • From Shannon Records and Amanda Lee [12-Sep-2006]: We climbed Katahdin, Maine's tallest mountain, in August before coming back for the fall semester. See pictures from our adventure.

  • From Amanda Lee [20-Mar-2006]: Amanda passed along an article in which she reflects on her month-long summer 2005 NOLS adventure in Alaska's Talkeetna Mountains. (Article originally published in STIR magazine, December 2005.)

  • From Greg Doerschler [3-Mar-2006]: Coes Reservoir near Clark was partially drained for dam reconstruction. It was a rare opportunity to see what lurks beneath the surface.
