Ë      December 8, 2004 

Winter Holiday Celebration:  Students came to Tilton Hall to celebrate the winter holidays and the last day of classes, sitting by the fire and enjoying free holiday desserts (including hot cocoa, cheesecake and cookies!), games and festivals.  The event featured henna painting (MSA), dreidle competitions, mistletoe activities.  Sponsored by the Intercultural Coalition, along with MSA, Hillel, WCCN, CUPA, BSU, Newman and Student Council.

Eid-ul-Fitr Dinnner held in Tilton to commemorate the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.  Our distinguished speaker of the night was Qamar-ul-Huda, Visiting Assistant Prof. of Islamic Studies at the College of Holy Cross, who spoke on the “Contribution of Sufi Muslims to Islam.”

"Islam 101" (Interfaith Week)- MSA students held an interactive discussion of the basic tenets of Islam, everything from the 5 pillars to the Hijaab ban in France was discussed.  

Ë      October 6, 2004

MSA hosted a Middle Eastern Coffee Party, with the help of the International Students and Scholars Office & Hillel.  We celebrated Arab Heritage with food and coffee from the region.  The event featured a LIVE belly dancing performance.

Participated in the Campus-Wide Potluck Dinner in the BMCC, hosted by the Intercultural Program Planning Group.

Jewish-Muslim Dialogue co-sponsored with Hillel & MSA.  Islamic theologian Halima Krausen and Rabbi Gloria Rubin spoke about the importance of inter-religious dialogue.

Ë    March 31st, 2004

Clark MSA, Hillel & Peaceworks invited Dr. Alice Rothchild, a prominent Boston based physician who had recently returned from Israel and Palestine.  As part of a medical delegation, she spent two weeks touring in both Israel and Palestine, and speaking to Israeli and Palestinian health care professionals about the current situation.  She spoke about her experience in both the occupied territories as well as Israel.

Ë    March 26th, 2004

MSA and the International Students and Scholars Office hosted South Asia Cultural Coffee Day.  The purpose of the event was to celebrate South Asian heritage.  The event featured music, dance performances, singing, food, henna painting, etc.

Ë    March 16, 2004

MSA invited Dr. Selma Botman, the Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Massachusetts.  The event was held to acknowledge Unity Week.  Dr. Botman spoke about the cultural and religious aspects of the veil in Islam under a segment called “The Veil Unveiled.”

Ë    February 25th, 2004

In honor of Black History month, MSA collaborated with another Clark organization, Black Student Union (BSU) and screened the movie, “Malcolm X.”

Ë    February 1st, 2004

MSA organized for the Muslim students to pray at the Sheraton Framingham.  The Islamic Society of North America sponsored the service.

Ë    December 2nd, 2003

Dinner was held in Tilton Hall to commemorate the end of the Ramadan and celebrate the cultural holiday: Eid-ul-Fitr.  The Guest Speaker at this event was Mr. Hassan Abbas of Harvard Law School.  Mr. Abbas spoke about the significance of fasting in Islam and drew upon the similarities of this ritual in other religions.  The event was a great success, with one of the highest turnouts to an Eid dinner ever held at Clark!

Students were invited to join in a Community Solidarity Fast to learn more about Ramadan in the context of the global situation.  Imrana Soofi, director of the American Muslim Community Link in Worcester, outlined the effects of war against Iraq in terms of hunger and basic necessities.

Eid-ul-Azha Dinner held in Tilton Hall.

Ë    December 6th, 2001

“The Global Community Solidarity Fast”:  Muslim and Non-Muslims fasted from sunrise to sunset and broke fast with the contents of the humanitarian food ration packets that the U.S. government was dropping over Afghanistan.  The purpose of this event was to raise awareness of the 7.5 million Afghanis who were at risk of starvation and to show solidarity with the hungry people of the world.  Another purpose of the event was to inform the student body as to why Muslims fast during the holy month of Ramadan.  The acting Mayor of Worcester at the time, Mayor Mariano, addressed all who gathered to break the solidarity fast.  He also gave the Clark MSA a Proclamation declaring December 6th “Solidarity Fast Day” in the city of Worcester.  The event attracted coverage from local television and radio stations. 

Ë    November 10th, 2001

MSA hosted a Community Get Together to meet members of the Worcester Community.  The meeting encouraged MSA members to become active members by volunteering some of their time for the betterment of the community.

Ë    November-December 2001

During the month of Ramadan, we had an Information and Fast-Breaking Table in the University Center.  The purpose of this was:  1) inform the community about the significance of fasting in Islam 2) provide light snacks to students observing the fast 3) invite the student body to join MSA.
