Special Elections: November 16th and 17th
Blackstone Hall Rep, Clark Houses Rep, and a couple of important referenda:

On November 16th and 17th, CUSC will be holding elections for the currently vacant positions of Blackstone Hall Representative and Clark Houses Representative. Please note that elections are online, and you will receive an email with a link to vote at 12:00am on the 16th. Students are asked to vote on two different questions, along with the two vacant positions. These two questions appear below.

Millennium Leadership Conference Referendum

The Millennium Leadership Conference is an event designed to cultivate the inherent leadership qualities of college students. While strongly marketed to students who identify as ALANA (ALANA is an acronym at Clark University which stands for African descent, Latino/a, Asian, and Native American), this annual event has been open to and attended by students from a wide-range of ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. The conference is attended by students from Clark, the Worcester Consortium, and a variety of institutions across New England.

Through a series of workshops and presentations, participants are challenged to assess their own experiences on college campuses from a personal and broader perspective, then encouraged to return to their respective college communities and take on leadership roles. The Millennium Leadership Conference also aims to provide attendees with a forum to network with professionals who will provide them with information regarding career opportunities.

Now in its 8th year, the Millennium Leadership Conference continues to be coordinated by Clark undergraduates with the assistance of administrators from various departments across the Clark campus.

The MLC Planning Committee is seeking to secure annual funding from the Student Activities Fund (SAF) in the amount of $19,200 ($4.80 per student per semester or $9.60 per student for the fiscal year 2010-2011).

Do you approve of allocating $4.80 per student per semester of your Student Activities Fee to the Millennium Leadership Conference?

____ A YES vote will designate $4.80 per student per semester of the Student Activities Fund to the Millenium Leadership Conference for the 2010-2011 academic year. Please note that by voting YES, your student activities fee will NOT be raised.

____ A NO vote means that the proposed allocation of $19,200 will remain in the general Student Activities Fund for allocation to recognized Clark clubs and organizations.

Security Camera Referendum

In response to student concerns regarding campus security some Clark Undergraduate Student Council members approached University Police about the installation of additional security cameras. University Police states that the cameras would be openly placed in non-residence hall areas around campus with heavy student traffic, for instance, the corner of Florence St. and Downing St. and the corner of Florence St. and Charlotte St. According to University Police, 24/7 monitoring of these cameras is not feasible. Security cameras will primarily be used to deter crime and “retroactively” look for violent and theft related crimes as opposed to minor student infractions. CUSC support of this initiative would include financial support from the capital expenditures portion of Cumulative Surplus – a fund to which any unspent Student Activities Funds roll to at the end of each year – and logistical and implementation support.

QUESTION: Do you approve of Clark Undergraduate Student Council supporting University Police’s installation of security cameras on campus?

a. Yes. A “Yes” vote means that you support the CUSC initiative to work with University Police to install security cameras on campus.
b. No. A “No” vote means that you do not support the CUSC initiative to work with University Police to install security cameras on campus. The Clark University Administration can decide to install cameras on campus without the involvement of the CUSC.
