Reference/Instruction

Reference Service: (508) 793-7579

Reference Service provides the answers to specific questions, advice on and assistance with bibliographic sources – both print and electronic- and ongoing consultation about long term projects including dissertations, scholarly articles and monographs, and web pages.

Instructional sessions are strongly encouraged. Faculty members or teaching assistants should make arrangements with a member of the reference staff as early as possible in the semester. The basic introductory session lasts an hour and fifteen minutes and includes an introduction to available services and hands-on practice with the online catalog and other electronic and print resources. Sessions focusing on specific disciplines and topics are also offered. For additional information contact Rachael Shea (rshea@clarku.edu), Instruction/Reference Librarian, Mary Hartman (mhartman@clarku.edu), Associate Librarian of Public Services, or  Irene Walch (iwalch@clarku.edu), Head of Reference Services at (508) 793-7579.
We support the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.

Individual reference sessions may be arranged with any member of the reference staff. This service is available to all members of the Clark community and may include introductory or advanced resources, both print and electronic. A minimum of twenty-four hours notice is required.

Through the Library’s web site (http://www.clarku.edu/research/goddard/) access to the catalog, databases, reference materials and the Internet is distributed. Access to a few sources is restricted to the Clark network, but these are clearly noted on the home page. The home page serves as a useful starting point not only for identifying materials available at Clark, but also for searching for journal articles in either full-text or bibliographic format; consulting electronic reference works; browsing and reading electronic journals and newspapers; and searching the catalogs of other institutions.  For questions concerning searching or accessing electronic resources contact Ed McDermott (emcdermott@clarku.edu), Systems Librarian at (508) 793-7651.

Interlibrary loans for research materials not available at Clark may also be arranged at the Reference Desk.
