Is the Marriage Checkup currently taking participants?                                                       No, unfortunately, the enrollment phase of the Marriage Checkup was recently completed. Although we will not be recruiting further participants for the current study, we would appreciate your involvement in future projects. If you would like for us to inform you when we are beginning enrollment in the future, please contact us through the link below.

Who is eligible to participate?
Most any married couple that is interested in finding out more about the health of their relationship will be eligible for a Marriage Checkup.
Unfortunately we will not be able to serve individuals who are currently seeing a marriage therapist or counselor. Our project is intended for those couples seeking a checkup, not for those couples that are actively seeking therapy. If you are unsure about whether or not you qualify, please contact us for clarification.

Is our participation kept confidential?
Yes. Information that we gather from your participation is labeled with a subject number, thereby keeping your identity separate from the information you provide us. Furthermore, your name and contact information as well as all data are kept in a locked location.
Only authorized members of the research and clinical team have access to personal information generated by the Marriage Checkup.

What is being done with the research generated from this study?
This study will yield information that will contribute to the refinement and creation of interventions that enhance and strengthen intimate relationships. (Since we look at trends within groups of couples as a whole, none of your personal information will be revealed in this process.)

What kind of time commitment is involved?
Expect for the first session to take approximately two hours,
however as there are different versions of the Checkup time
commitments may vary. When you complete an initial screening
by phone, we will generate a time estimate for you.

Are we obliged to continue with the Marriage Checkup
once we have started it?

Absolutely not. All couples are free to discontinue the Marriage Checkup at any time and are entitled to all compensation received up until that point.

How are we compensated for our participation?

Couples will receive $50 for completing the first battery of questionnaires following their Marriage Checkup. All couples will receive a follow-up questionnaire package six months after the checkup, for which they will be paid $75 to complete. At 12 months following the checkup, couples will receive the same packet of questionnaires for which they will be paid $100 to complete, and may also be invited back to the lab to receive a booster session. All couples will receive an additional questionnaire packet in the mail at 18 months for which they will be paid $100. Finally, all couples will receive a packet of questionnaires at 24 months for which they will be paid $100 to complete, and once again they may be invited to the lab to participate in a final assessment.

Couples who participate for the full two year assessment period may receive up to $575.
