Marine Resource Management Studies

This semester program is offered during the spring or fall semester.

Through group impact, the School for Field Studies is determined to positively influence environmental concerns by means of research and study. A 14-week program, students learn about marine ecology and environmental management.

By observation and exploration, students assess the health of coral reefs and sea grass, which are at a greater risk as the economy and tourist market are reliant on the fish market. The development of a sustainable fishery is critical to the livelihood of the community on South Caicos Island.

In addition to the Directed Research course, students take Tropical Marine Ecology, Principles of Resource Management, and Environmental Policy and Socioeconomic Values. Students also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the community by tutoring at the grade school, hosting Sea Day, and instructing swimming lessons.

Located adjacent to Cockburn Harbour, living quarters occupy two residence wings. It is fully equipped with marine operations. Students must have at least one semester of college ecology or biology and may choose to be SCUBA certified.
