Doherty receives award for work in international education
Patty D. Doherty, of Worcester, was honored with the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Region IX's Rising Professional Award for her work as an intercultural educator. Doherty is the Senior Assistant Director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs at Clark University.
The Rising Professional Award is granted to those who have worked in the field of international education and have been a member of NAFSA for less than five years, and have demonstrated outstanding commitment to international education through involvement in job or volunteer activities. Recipients must also be active in regional and/or national NAFSA activities.
"Patty has created new and exciting programs that address the varying needs of our international graduate students and educate the entire campus regarding intercultural differences," said Amy C. Daly Gardner, Director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs. "She also has advised different international student organizations at Clark, served on the planning committee for the annual Intercultural Retreat, and is an administrative mentor to two Global Scholars."
Doherty received her B.A. in English from Fairfield University. She also has an M.A. in counseling with a concentration in higher education from Montclair State University. Doherty has worked at Clark since February 2006. She is married with three children.
NAFSA is an association of individuals worldwide advancing international education and exchange and global workforce development. The original name of the NAFSA: Association of International Educators was National Association of Foreign Student Advisers.
