Clark U Student Theater presents ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in April

Worcester, Mass. - Clark University students will perform Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet," at 8 p.m., April 12 to 14, 19 to 21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15. Admission is $5; free with a current college ID. All performances will be in the Little Center Theater on Downing Street.

Twenty Clark students will take the stage in the classic Renaissance tragedy, including sophomore Daniel Derks as Romeo, and senior Jennifer Williamson as Juliet. Sophomore Christine Dunant is stage manager.

"The play has been set in Italian cities, international slums, villages, palaces, and the two houses have been depicted at every imaginable level of the social scale," says director Yvonne Conybeare, who also teaches acting at Clark. "The company will construct the clash of the two cultures/tribes—a backdrop for the tale of the doomed lovers—out of urban images and stereotypes."

This production is co-sponsored by the Theater Arts Program, Clark Arts at Clark University. For more information or to make reservations, please call 508-793-7356, or e-mail clarkarts@clarku.edu.
