Clark U. to host talks, performances to mark Playwright Samuel Beckett Centenary
Worcester, Mass. - The worldwide celebration of Samuel Beckett's centenary arrives in Worcester from April 2-7, with a week's worth of events at Clark University and Foothills Theatre. The Nobel Prize-winning playwright will be remembered in style, with presentations by distinguished scholars, and performances of his work at both the college and professional level.
Events at Clark begin on Monday, April 2, with a talk by Thomas Moore, best-selling author of Care of the Soul, at 7:30 p.m. in Razzo Hall, Traina Center for the Arts, 92 Downing Street, Worcester. Mr. Moore's talk on ritual, dream, and archetypal memory in Beckett's theatre will be preceded by a performance of a short Beckett piece.
On April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Razzo Hall in the Traina Center for the Arts, Professor Redmond O'Hanlon, esteemed scholar of drama from the National University of Ireland, Dublin, will present "Beckett...Music, Silence, and the End of Representation," following a performance of a short Beckett piece.

Opening night of Endgame, Beckett's wicked masterpiece of black comedy, is April 4, at Foothills Theatre in downtown Worcester. Foxrock Performance Company, a local group known internationally for performing Beckett, will revive their streamlined production for four performances, April 4-7, beginning at 8 p.m. Call Foothills for reservations at 508-754-4018.
