Presidential Search Process and Committee

Our choice of a new president will be a very deliberate and inclusive process. A strong internal candidate is being considered as Clark's next president. Therefore, on the advice of several search firms, the Committee in agreement with Clark faculty has decided to conduct the search in two stages, beginning with a rigorous and robust evaluation of the internal candidate. By the end of this year, the Committee will decide whether to appoint the internal candidate as Clark's next president. If not selected, the internal candidate will be asked to step aside and the Committee will proceed with a national search beginning in January 2010. The Committee anticipates having a new president in place by the time President Bassett steps down in July.

The Search Committee views the intervening transition period as a welcome opportunity to solicit input from Clark's friends on the leadership qualities and priorities desirable in Clark's next president. To this end the Committee has conducted 14 Leadership Priority Discussions, both at Clark and throughout the country, and is appreciative of and encouraged by the thoughtful comments and ideas received to date. The Committee cordially invited those not present at the discussions to submit their opinions and suggestions directly using its online feedback form.

These Presidential Search Web pages provide relevant information and facilitate communication between the Presidential Search Committee and the University's constituencies. Presidential search news will be posted and archived on these pages, under Communications.
