President Bassett joins new Presidents' Trust for liberal education formed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Bassett and a national group of 81 other college and university leaders are forming this Trust to advocate for liberal education and its value in today's world. The Presidents' Trust is a leadership group within AAC&U's national initiative, Liberal Education and America's Promise (LEAP): Excellence for Everyone as a Nation Goes to College. Press release

Bassett also attended the NAICU annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 4, 2009. where private college and university presidents mixed with public opinion leaders and political analysts to explore challenges facing private higher education. U-CAN Consumer Information Goes Live. The University & College Accountability Network (U-CAN) was unveiled on Sept. 26 at a news conference by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), the largest organization representing nonprofit, private institutions in the United States. Clark President John Bassett, as chair of the U-CAN advisory committee, participated in the conference and launch in Washington, D.C. New Book: Clark University President John Bassett recently published "Sherwood Anderson: An American Career" (Susquehanna University Press 2005). The book is the first critical introduction to this important American writer in almost 30 years. Read more
UPCS Cablecast: The U.S. Department of Education visited the University Park Campus School and Clark to film a video vignette that was originally aired on the January 17 broadcast of the DOE's live television program, Education News Parents Can Use, entitled "Improving Access to College: Preparing for Education Beyond High School."
