President Bassett joins new Presidents' Trust for liberal education
formed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Bassett and a national group of 81 other college and university leaders are forming this Trust to advocate for liberal education and its value in today's world. The Presidents' Trust is a leadership group within AAC&U's national initiative, Liberal Education and America's Promise (LEAP): Excellence for Everyone as a Nation Goes to College. Press release

President Bassett served as a forum panelist at the sixth annual Jobs for the Future (JFF) "Making a Difference" breakfast on January 15, 2009 in Boston, Mass. The forum focused on how Massachusetts communities can improve through the "three I’s": Innovation, Investment, and Infrastructure.

The University & College Accountability Network (U-CAN) was unveiled on Sept. 26 at a news conference by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), the largest organization representing nonprofit, private institutions in the United States. Clark President John Bassett, as chair of the U-CAN advisory committee, participated in the conference and launch in Washington, D.C. - New Book: Clark University President John Bassett recently published "Sherwood Anderson: An American Career" (Susquehanna University Press 2005). The book is the first critical introduction to this important American writer in almost 30 years. Read more
- UPCS Cablecast: The U.S. Department of Education visited the University Park Campus School and Clark to film a video vignette that was originally aired on the January 17 broadcast of the DOE's live television program, Education News Parents Can Use, entitled "Improving Access to College: Preparing for Education Beyond High School." Clark President John Bassett is featured and also fielded questions during the live broadcast. President Bassett spoke about the Worcester Education Partnership at a Colloquium titled "K-12 and Continuing Education" during the January 2003 Inaugural Festivities at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
- WEP receives $250,000 grant to establish the Fleet Secondary Literacy Development Program
President Bassett spoke at the grant announcement ceremony. He was joined at the event by Worcester Schools Superintendent D. James Caradonio, Worcester Mayor Timothy P. Murray, Director of Clark University's Hiatt Center for Urban Education Tom Del Prete, FleetBoston Financial Regional President Jim Paulhus, and administrators, teachers and students from South High School.
- Clark Receives State's Highest Education Leadership Award
Clark University is one of three recipients of the John C. Rennie Award for Team Leadership in Standards-Based Reform, the state's highest distinction for leadership in school reform.
