Clark University's approach to campus security is proactive, with University Police working to build a strong and interactive relationship with the students, faculty and staff they are committed to serving. The Clark University Police Department, headed by Chief Steve Goulet, includes 12 officers who are empowered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As such, Clark University police are authorized within a limited geographic area to perform the same duties as any other police officer. They have the authority to wear firearms and to make arrests.
Besides the Clark campus, officers also patrol the surrounding streets. There, they work in cooperation with the Worcester City Police to protect off-campus students and property. They patrol by foot and by car 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are all certified in CPR and other medical emergency techniques. They also are all required by Clark University to undergo special training in such areas as crisis intervention, diversity sensitivity, firearms use, medical emergencies, victim awareness, sexual assault and domestic violence.

Please know that Halloween's many celebrations came and went with no major
problems reported or observed. UP appreciates the following of the
safety suggestions that were sent out to our community last week.
It is good to know that our community works together to best protect itself.
There was one situation that we want to share with you.
A student was approached, approx. 1pm Halloween afternoon, by two teens
ages 14-15. One of the teens asked if the student "would believe I had a real
gun?"
The teen showed the handle of what appeared to be a gun but it is clear this
could have been a fake replica of one as a possible attempt at a prank.
No attempt to threaten or assault happened in any manner.
This happened near Atwood Hall.
The two teens continued walking up Woodland St. and the
student went to call UP.
Now that Halloween has come and gone we ask that you continue to think
about your safety and utilize the suggestions we sent to you last week.
Thank you for your efforts and if there is anything we can provide you
please call us at x7575.
University Police offers two specific services to strengthen safety and
security on campus, the Student Escort Service and the Emergency
Medical Service.

and graduate students and offers a two-tiered approach to providing safer
escorts to students. Three vans provide safer rides to students from
4pm until 4 am daily throughout the academic sessions and will take
students up to a quarter mile away from campus. S.E.S. also
offers walking escorts where students are accompanied on foot to
their destinations across campus. This service available from 8pm-2am
daily throughout the academic sessions. The headquarters of the
S.E.S. is located within the Academic Commons on the
plaza level of the Goddard Library.
* To access S.E.S. dial x7777 on-campus, or 508-793-7777

comprised of certified volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians
and First Responders. E.M.S. provides rapid medical care for the
entire Clark community and runs 24 hours/day, 7 days a week
throughout the academic sessions. The headquarters of E.M.S.
is located in the basement of 2 Downing St.
* To access E.M.S. care, dial x7575 on-campus or

night.
