Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

This program allows a Clark student to participate as an intern and/or to conduct research with an organization in Luxembourg for six to eight weeks during the summer. The program thus allows primarily undergraduate students to enter the professional world while learning more about Luxembourg.

One of the two 2008 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarships for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Sara Greenberg, an Environmental Science and Policy major. Sara will be interning at The Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippman in Belvaux, Luxembourg. Her sponsoring professor is Jennie Stephens of Clark's International Development, Community, & Environment Department (IDCE).

The second 2008 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Caroline Drewes, a double major in Communication and Culture, and Management. Caroline will intern with The European Headquarters of iTunes in Luxembourg City. His sponsoring professor is SunHee Kim Gertz of Clark's English Department.

One of the two 2007 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarships for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Amital Sachs, a double major in English and Ancient Civilizations. Tali was selected to join The Student Envoy Program with The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg. Tali's sponsoring professor was Betsy Huang of Clark's English Department.

The second 2007 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Nathan Fowle, a music major. Nathan interned with The European Headquarters of iTunes in Luxembourg City. His sponsoring professor was SunHee Kim Gertz of Clark's English Department.

The 2006 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Danielle M. Tifft, who interned with the Foreign Commercial Service at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg. Danielle's sponsoring professor was Prof. Virginia Vaughan of Clark's English Department.

The 2003 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Sebastian Andrews, who successfully completed his internship in the "Environment and Biotechnologies Research Unit" at the Centre de Recherché Public-Gabriel Lippmann.  Sebastian's work at the CRP-Gabriel Lippmann contributed to his Power Point Honors presentation at Clark entitled "Analysis of the Attert River Basin Surface and Sub-surface Soil Using a Fingerprinting Technique." Sebastian's sponsoring professor was Prof. Don Nelson of Clark's Chemistry Department.

The 2001 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Geoffrey Dancy, who successfully completed his internship at Citibank in Luxembourg. Geoffrey's sponsoring professor was Prof. John Brown of Clark's Economics Department.

The 2000 Henry J. Leir Summer Research Scholarship for Undergraduate Students was awarded to Christos Nicolaou, who successfully completed his internship at the Centre de Recherché Public-Gabriel Lippmann. Christos' sponsoring professor was Prof. Al Jones of Clark's Chemistry Department.

Henry J. Leir Ph.D. Research Scholarship

This program allows a Ph.D. candidate from Clark's Economics Department to participate in a highly prestigious, one-year internship with The Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (BCL). The sponsoring professor for all Ph.D. students is Prof. John Brown of Clark's Economics Department.

The 2008-09 Henry J. Leir Senior Research Scholarship for Graduate Students was awarded to Allison Shwachman, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics. Allison will intern with the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (Central Bank of Luxembourg).

The 2006-07 Henry J. Leir Senior Research Scholarship for Graduate Students was awarded to Jordan Marvakov, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics. Jordan interned with the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (Central Bank of Luxembourg). Jordan co-authored with Thomas Y. Mathä a BCL working paper entitled "An Analysis of Commuting Flows in the European Union", November 2007.

The 2004-05 Henry J. Leir Senior Research Scholarship for Graduate Students was awarded to Ladislav Wintr, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics.  Ladislav interned with the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (Central Bank of Luxembourg). Ladislav co-authored with Paolo Guarda and Abdelaziz Rouabah a BCL working paper entitled "Estimating the Natural Interest vRate for the Euro Area and Luxembourg", June 2005.

The 2003-04 Henry J. Leir Senior Research Scholarship for Graduate Students was awarded to Ieva Rubena, a Ph.D. candidate in Economics.  Ieva interned with the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg.  During her time at the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg, Ieva co-authored with Paolo Guarda a BCL working paper entitled "The New Keynesian Phillips Curve: Empirical Results for Luxembourg", June 2003.
