Maintaining Official Clark Web Sites

Choose a Web Content Manager
Each academic department and administrative office at Clark must select an individual who is responsible for maintaining the content on their official web site. Generally, the Web Content Manager or WebCM is a staff member within the department.

Existing Content/New Content
Web Content Managers are only responsible for editing existing content and keeping it up-to-date. The creation of new content should be discussed with University Communications and templates can be created for you prior to beginning any new content project.

Getting Permissions
All Web Content Managers must undergo a short introduction to the Clark template with Deirdre Ni Chonaill, the Web Manager in University Communications. Once you've met with Deirdre Ni Chonaill, she will request that you be given permissions to the appropriate Clark site. After that, training in SharePoint Designer can be requested from Steven Vosnakis in ITS.

Software

Most WebCMs use SharePoint Designer which comes installed on all Windows computers managed by ITS. Beginning during the Fall semester of 2011, we will be making the switch to a new product named, Adobe Contribute.

Keep in mind though that no software is actually required to edit the official sites. If you know HTML and would like to just use a secure-FTP program like Fetch or Filezilla, you are welcome to use any code editor or text editor to edit your site. See connection info below.

Getting Connected

The connection instructions differ a bit based on what software tool you are using. See the help documents below:
