Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and Windows 8
As with any new major software release, there are usually a few bumps that need to be ironed out. ITS is advising that people hold off on upgrading their personal computers for a few months. As always, faculty and staff should never upgrade Clark provided, ITS managed, computers’ operating systems. ITS is expecting to start supporting OS X 10.8 and Windows 8 in the spring of 2013. People who choose to bring personal computers running these new operating systems before the spring should be prepared for potential incompatible applications and changes from previous versions of OS X and Windows.
Supported Operating Systems
ITS currently supports Apple OS X 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 in addition to Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7. ITS recommends that people with OS X 10.5 and Windows XP migrate to a newer operating system version for better security and support from Apple and Microsoft respectively. Hardware Recommendations
We update our minimum and recommended specifications page regularly for incoming students as well as for faculty and staff looking to buy a new computer for personal use. ITS has expanded hardware vendor partnerships to include Hewlett-Packard (HP) in addition to Dell and Apple. These partnerships help us to leverage heavily discounted prices on systems that match our hardware configuration recommendations and standards for personal purchases. If you are shopping for a new computer, we urge you to check these configurations and pricing before you make your purchase.
