Clark University seeks a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Communications Specialist in the Graduate School of Management. This position is responsible for gathering and communicating pertinent information about the Graduate School of Management (GSOM) to all relevant constituencies. The Communications Specialist will write and edit content for print, online, and e-mail communications with the aim of recruiting prospective students as well as communicating effectively with the various constituencies of GSOM. He/she will develop and maintain the GSOM website, so that it provides an engaging and current online presence. The Communications Specialist will also produce the print and online version of the GSOM alumni newsletter and provide some communications support to the centralized graduate admissions office.
Essential functions of the job include: coordinating with GSOM deans and directors to identify communication needs and priorities; establishing and executing a mechanism to stay informed about faculty, staff, student, and alumni news and accomplishments; writing compelling communications with content geared primarily toward recruiting prospective students; managing GSOM’s website and social media content, presence and activity; working with GSOM Dean to produce both print and online versions of the GSOM alumni newsletter; and conducting focus groups with current students to determine goals for the website and social media. This position also requires coordinating responses to surveys and confirming that they are complete, accurate and timely.
He/she will be responsible for serving as GSOM’s liaison to the University Marketing and Communications Department. This entails writing and distributing GSOM news to the University Marking and Communications Department and meeting periodically with the University Marketing and Communications Department to ensure that GSOM’s communication plans and strategy are consistent with, and leverage the university level plans and strategy.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other related major. This position requires excellent writing and editing skills, knowledge of current marketing trends and practices, and familiarity with the higher education industry. This position also requires 2-3 years of experience writing for print, online publications and the web for the purposes of marketing a product or service.
