Clark University’s Dean of Students Office seeks a Coordinator of Academic Advancement, who is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program of activities to promote the academic success of historically underrepresented student communities. The position is focused on students of color and first-generation college students who will benefit from an integrated program of academic and support services. The set of programs to be implemented includes student needs assessment, a college adjustment program, and mentoring program. The learning outcomes of these programs should meet the criteria of the institution’s LEEP initiative. With the assistance of two graduate assistants, the Coordinator of Academic Advancement facilitates campus-wide efforts to promote academic success and persistence of the target student populations and builds support for these efforts among faculty and staff.

One of the main responsibilities for this position is co-developing and co-implementing the Academic Clark Excellence (ACE) Summer Institute, a fourteen-day, summer pre-orientation program for students of color and first-generation college students and a four-year curriculum that will address the needs of each classification. The Coordinator of Academic Advancement will also serve as Clark’s liaison to “CHAS”, the Consortium for High Achievement and Success. He/she will organize and/or facilitate Focus (a support group for Black and Latino male students) biweekly meetings. This position directly supervises multiple student staff as well as a part-time staff assistant. The major responsibilities of the two graduate students is to assist with the execution of ACE, facilitate monthly meetings with student-mentors, and implement academically focused programming for ALANA and first-generation college students.

This position requires a MA/MS degree in Education, Student Affairs or College Student Development. He/she must have at least two years of post-graduate experience implementing academic success programs for students of color and/or first-generation college student. He/she must also have experience with direct supervision and developing measurable learning outcomes and needs assessments.
