Director of Enterprise Application Architecture

Clark University’s Information Technology Services seeks a professional to the fill the position of Director of Enterprise Application Architecture. This position reports to the VP for Information Technology and works closely with senior IT leadership to establish IT governance processes and facilitate the definition and implementation of application strategy, standards, and roadmaps. This position is a hands-on, director-level position and will be responsible for leading, managing and delivering complex information system solutions. He/she will also lead and manage a team of IT professionals that include a DBA, systems developers/programmers and web developers. The Director of Enterprise Application Architecture provides advice and execution support services concerning enterprise architecture for Clark’s portfolio of enterprise applications, databases, data interfaces and core business processes.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: review new features and other changes related to database intensive systems and direct technical staff in the resolution of issues relevant to reporting, programming, and performance; work with stakeholders, both leadership and subject matter experts, to build a holistic view of the organization's strategy, processes, information, and information technology assets; optimize information management approaches and data integration processes through an understanding of evolving business needs and technology capabilities; promote shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and improve information flows; function as Senior Project Manager by planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to deadlines and within budget; participate in the investigation, planning, coordination, and preparation of feasibility studies relative to new IT systems and modifications to existing systems; proactively coordinate with other departments (internal and external to IT) to ensure clear communication of enterprise design approaches, workflow and data standards; review documentation developed by other departments to ensure adherence to standards and consistency of information to analysts and developers; supervise, support and assess technical support staff to ensure a common direction that meets/exceeds expressed University objectives as well as end-user needs; develop, implement and maintain policies/procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the University’s administrative systems and its related databases; participate in annual University audit as it relates to IT controls and change management procedures; and contribute to setting and enforcing data security policies and procedures for the University.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field plus 10 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree, such as an MBA, and relevant certifications, such as Project Management Certification, is preferred. Other qualifications include: supervisory experience; demonstrated domain knowledge in at least one of the following areas, and working knowledge in the other: Application Architecture, Data Architecture, and Service-Oriented Architecture; strong technical programming and web development skills (including SQL, PL/SQL, JAVA, HTML, XML, GROOVY/GRAILS), and experience with APIs and reporting tools required; additional experience with Oracle development and reporting/business intelligence tools preferred; working knowledge of our primary administrative application (Ellucian Banner) strongly desired; proven experience understanding and translating university business needs into a comprehensive, cohesive architecture that meets functional and non-functional requirements; exceptional verbal and written communications and consultative customer service skills; knowledge of IT governance and operations; and ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis.
