Living without Housing Deposits...

In past years, all students were required to pay a housing deposit fee in order to participate in any facet of the Housing Selection Process.  This meant that students needed to come up with the deposit amount and submit it with their Housing Registration Forms.  If you were paying with cash or credit you needed to take your forms to the Cashier's office before dropping them off at RLH, and if you didn't pay your deposit you were unable to participate in Lottery and could end up on the waitlist.  What a nightmare!

RLH no longer collects Housing Deposits.  In order to ensure that students take the Housing Selection process seriously students must sign a Housing Contract when applying for Housing Selection.  Housing Contracts may be cancelled / suspended for the following reasons for the fees indicated:

  • Without Charge: Contracts are cancelled without fee for students who complete their degree requirements at mid-year, students who withdraw from or take an official leave of absence from the University mid-semester or mid-year, and for students who apply for and subsequently notify the RLH Office that they do not wish to participate in the Housing Selection process BEFORE being issued a Lottery Number or being assigned a room.
  • $100 Fee: Contracts are cancelled for $100 for students who apply for and receive a Housing Lottery Number, and subsequently elect not to select a room at Housing Lottery, and for students who withdraw from or take an official leave of absence from the University PRIOR to the start of the Fall Semester.
  • $300 Fee: Contracts are cancelled for $300 for students who attend a Clark University approved “study abroad” program for the Fall Semester after selecting a space at Lottery.  Students who apply to go abroad are encouraged not to select a room through Housing Lottery.
  • $1,000 Fee: Contracts are cancelled for $1,000 for students who are not required to live on campus but elect to do so voluntarily, and subsequently appeal to move off campus.  The $1,000 contract cancellation fee is also applied to students who are granted an appeal to move off campus to commute from home after applying for housing, to students who are released from their Housing Contract for medical, financial, or any other reason.
