A student who wishes to leave the University and is not planning to return may file for a Withdrawal. If you feel that you need to withdraw from the University, please call the Dean of Students Office at extension 7423 to set up an appointment. If you later decide that leaving the University was not in your best interest, you may re-apply through the Dean of Students Office, rather than going through Admissions. For further information regarding Withdrawals please refer to the information below.
Definition:
Withdrawal from the University is the appropriate action when you do not intend to return. You may be transferring to complete a degree elsewhere or permanently stopping work toward a degree. The important feature is that you do not intend to return. Should you decide later that you wish to return to the University, you will re-apply through the Dean of Students Office (not Admissions) by filling out a one-page form. Please contact the Dean of Students Office to begin this process.
Dropping Courses:
If you withdraw during the course of a semester, you must fill out drop slips for each course in which you are enrolled. Drop slips are available from the Registrar's Office. If you withdraw at the end of the semester, after you have finished your courses, it is not necessary to drop them.
Forwarding Mail:
You can make arrangements at Mail Services to have your mail forwarded to you. Only first class mail will be forwarded; campus mail, flyers, etc. will not be forwarded to you.
Vacating Campus Housing:
For insurance reasons, only currently enrolled students live in campus housing. When you withdraw from the University during a semester you are no longer a currently enrolled student and must move out of your residence hall/house. As a courtesy, students who withdraw are allowed a 48-hour grace period to move out. However, you must be out of residence within 48 hours of your withdrawal.
Exit Room Inspection: You must notify your RA (Resident Advisor) that you are leaving so that a final inspection of your room can be scheduled. If you do not make these arrangements, the room will be inspected in your absence and you will be billed for any damage. If your RA is not available, notify the AC (Area Coordinator).
ClarkCard/Room Key: You must also turn in your ClarkCard and room key to the RA or AC. If you fail to turn these in, you will be charged for them.
International Students:
If you are not a citizen or a permanent resident of the United States, your visa may require that you be a full time student. If you withdraw, you will no longer meet that requirement. You must obtain authorization from the International Students and Scholars Office before you withdraw.
Transcript Notation:
The date of your withdrawal from the University is noted on your transcript.
Transcript Requests:
To arrange to have a Clark transcript sent to another school, contact the Registrar's Office.
Transfer of Credits:
Transfer of credits taken at another institution is NOT automatic. You should always arrange through the Academic Advising Office for pre-approval of credits taken elsewhere. If you have not definitely decided but think that you may take courses while you are on leave, please check with Academic Advising to find out how to arrange pre-approval.
