Scheduling an Appointment
To schedule an appointment, email counseling@clarku.edu, or leave a message at (508) 793-7658, Ext. 1. When requesting an appointment, it is helpful if students provide their name, contact information, and times that would work well for them.
Location and Hours of Operations
We are located at 501 Park Avenue, directly next to Health Services (on the corner of Maywood St. and Park Avenue).
We schedule appointments Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, when school is in session. We are open for limited hours during school holidays and vacations, and are closed during summer break.
Scope of Services
Services are typically short-term, however there is no specific number of sessions that a student is allowed. We operate from a student-centered perspective, in which the student takes an active role in their treatment. Our therapeutic services are primarily strength-based and solution focused, with emphasis on hehavior based problem solving.
Some students experience needs outside the scope of our services, for example: conditions requiring close coordination with psychiatrists or other providers, conditions with persistent symptoms of risk to personal safety, and conditions requiring access to therapists outside of normal business hours. These students are encouraged to consult with us for an assessment of their symptoms (diagnostic evaluation), and assisstance with a referral to community health providers
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance of the clinical staff. We strive to meet the needs of students in a respectful manner and are attentive to issues of privacy and confidentiality. All information shared by the student remains within the service. Therapists might consult with each other about clinical issues, but without the student’s consent a therapist cannot discuss the case with anyone outside of the service. The only exception to the confidentiality policy is when there is a concern about the risk to self and/or others.
