Overview

This program is designed to match students with local Professionals to increase the students’ awareness of the career and civic opportunities in the city of Worcester. The program is open to sophomores and juniors and it begins on January 23rd and will run until May.

Program Benefits

This program provides students with career development, civic engagement and networking opportunities through their relationship with a Professional Mentor in the Worcester community. This program will also provide students real-world access to business practices in their respective field through their interaction with their Mentor.





Program Timeline

Application    
September/October  
  • Mentors complete the online Mentor Profile
  • Students are invited to apply to the program
November  
  • Mentor Profiles and Student Applications due November 16th
  • Mentors and students are matched and notified of their matches
  • Student survey is distributed
  • Tips for mentoring relationship is distributed
December  
  • Surveys are due by December 16th
     
Mentoring Activities    
January  
  • Kick-off reception, January 23, 2008
     
February to April  

  • Attend 2 networking events
    (conference, meeting, etc)
  • Attend civic activity (volunteer, fundraiser, etc)
  • Hold mock career interview
  • Shadowing day
  • Career development meeting
     
May  
  • Closing reception - Date TBA

Student Responsibilities

Mentees in this program should learn and understand the background of the industry and organization their Mentor is affiliated with. Mentees are expected to establish goals, identify discussion topics and prepare agendas and questions for each meeting with your Mentor.

Mentees are responsible to act and dress in a professional manner, attend all meetings and activities scheduled with your mentor. It is also the expectation of the Mentee to return phone calls and emails promptly and if there are any issues with the Mentor relationship to notify us immediately.

Application Process

Please complete the online application and provide Career Services your resume and a letter of recommendation from one of your professors by November 1, 2007. This is a competitive selection process and selections will be based on mutual professional and civic interests.
