Description
A Teaching Fellowship at Citizen Schools is a two-year intensive professional development program offering tremendous experience and training and the opportunity to work within two leading educational institutions. The Fellowship is designed to provide leadership development to people of varied backgrounds who have high potential as educators and community builders. For the practicum component of the program, the Fellow works part-time at a Citizen Schools campus and part-time at a Partner Organization, such as the New England Aquarium, the Federal Courthouse Public Education Project, or Boston Public Schools' TechBoston program. All Fellows receive at least 25 days of training annually and participate in monthly Learning Seminars that focus on educational and community development concepts, such as education reform, and professional skills, such as financial management. Fellows work primarily as front-line educators and community builders: they lead hands-on activities for small and large groups; design and teach curriculum; lead peers in planning and implementation of educational activities; recruit students and volunteers; and foster partnerships with school faculty community organizations. The position is full time: Fellows typically work from 9 to 6 (8 to 6 for five weeks in the summer), five days a week, or fewer daily hours six days a week.

Award
Teaching Fellows are paid $22,000 to $24,000 annually and receive full benefits including health care, 403B, three weeks vacation, and extensive training. Fellows also have the opportunity to be part of education innovations that complement traditional school learning.
