Both Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) required current antivirus clients to be updated/replaced to work with their new features; ITS now has these versions available for download from ITS. If you are not planning on using Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.6, you do not need to upgrade. However if you choose to use these new operating systems, you should be very careful. Applying an operating system as an "upgrade" with the older antivirus client on it, may break the antivirus program and make uninstalling it very difficult; uninstalling the program before performing the upgrade could elminate this problem. ITS recommends that any operating system installation be performed as a "clean" install (all data is backed up and the computer's hard drive is formatted).
The new antivirus clients have been tested with the Clark Network Registration page with Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6 computers able to pass the registration process, just follow the normal registration process when you are prompted to register your computer. As time permits, ITS will update the documentation on the network registration pages to reference Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6.
It is important to note that ITS is not deploying or supporting either Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.6 at this time. Over the academic year we will be testing both operating systems with our campus services and only then will we be able to recommend/support these operating systems. If you opt to upgrade to one of these new operating systems, it is important to understand that an unknown amount of Clark services may become inaccessible if that is a risk you are willing to take and troubleshoot. We would like to know what issues you encounter and questions/thoughts/concerns should be directed to the Help Desk at x7745.
