Professional & Academic Experience
Derek currently serves as the Associate Dean for Student Life at The College of the Holy Cross, overseeing residential life, student involvement, recreation, intramurals, and club sports, and the marching band. Prior to Holy Cross, he was the assistant vice provost for residential life at Iona College, where along with directing the residential life program, he was a member of the college's strategic planning committee and served as the chairperson of the staff and administrative council.
Before Iona, Derek held positions at Quinnipiac and Bentley universities in residential life, and, at both institutions, he also served as an adjunct professor of marketing and business. At Bentley, he taught the World of Business and Strategic Management courses, while at Quinnipiac he served as an instructor of Principles of Marketing, Advertising, and Integrated Marketing Communications. This past spring, Derek co-instructed a graduate course in Assessment in Student Affairs at Boston College. He earned his B.S. from LeMoyne College, his MBA from Bentley University and his Ph.D. in educational leadership from Fordham University.
In his spare time, Derek is a college ice hockey official and has been chosen to work the women's division 1 national championship game twice. He also is passionate about horse racing, as a partner in the ownership of several thoroughbred horses.
