Welcome new graduate students!

Course Registration

When will I be allowed to register for classes?

We know that one of the most exciting parts of planning to attend graduate school is figuring out what classes you are going to take first. At Clark, we want to make sure we support you to ensure that you start off on the right foot, so you will work with your advisers during orientation to register for your first classes. However, there are a few things you can take care of over the summer, so you are ready to register once you arrive on campus.

Clear your Clark account

You will receive your first-semester bill over the summer, which is based on the average course load for a student in your program. When your bill is sent, your account will also be noted with a "hold," which is not removed until you have resolved your bill. Once you have cleared your account (by paying your bill or contacting Student Accounts about special arrangements), this hold will be removed from your record.

Review academic requirements and course offerings

Your academic adviser will work with you to ensure that you understand your degree requirements and take the right classes, but it is a good idea to do some of your own research over the summer. Take time to review the recommended course loads and core required classes for your program, as well as the courses being offered this fall. If you like, prepare a draft schedule that you can discuss with your adviser during orientation.

Note that some programs, specifically the MA in Teaching and the MS in Finance, have very specific requirements, and your options for registration will be limited during your first semester.

Complete any required prerequisite courses (MS in Finance students only)

If there are prerequisite courses for the program that you have not completed you must complete these courses before you arrive at Clark. Any courses you needed to take would have been noted in your admission letter. Please send official transcripts from the institutions after completion to the Graduate Admissions office.

Arrive for Orientation

Every program has different requirements for advising and steps you will need to take during orientation in order to officially register for your classes. However, don't worry — all of those steps will be taken care of for you during orientation. All you need to do is make sure to arrive on-time for orientation, and we'll take care of the rest.

I have to take a waiver exam, when will that happen? (MBA students only)

New MBA students who are informed of their eligibility to take waiver exams (see your Waiver Evaluation Form, found in your online admit letter) will have the option of taking these exams at scheduled times during Orientation. The non-refundable fee for each exam is $50. The Waiver Exam Study Guide will inform you of the topic areas for each test. Students will receive an email in early August with additional information about the waiver exam process and how to register.

If you still have questions...

All questions about course requirements, the registration process, or class offerings should be sent to your program contact.
