Arriving on Campus
Travel and Accommodation Plans
If you intend to reach Worcester by plane, Boston Logan International Airport is the closest international airport from Worcester and we highly recommend that students fly into Boston and take ground transportation from Boston Logan to Worcester. There are additional airports in Providence, RI, Manchester, NH, and Hartford, CT, however transportation to campus from these locations is often more complicated than arriving from Boston.
Once in Boston, you can choose to take public transportation (train or bus) to Union Station in downtown Worcester, where you will need to take a taxi to campus. Alternately, we strongly encourage students to consider using one of the shared van/limousine services in Worcester to pick you up at the airport and bring you directly to campus.
Upon your arrival in Worcester, immediate accommodations in nearby hotels at a special discounted rate for Clark students and families are available.
Planning What to Bring
Be sure to pack the essentials (or plan to buy them). Don't forget clothes for warm and cold weather, sheets and towels, and any medications and toiletries you will need. If you can't bring them with you, there are places where you can purchase/find these things once you arrive. If you will have roommates, plan among yourselves who will bring items that can be shared.
The Residential Life and Housing office provides a recommended list of items to bring, as well as items that are prohibited from on-campus housing.
Furnishing Your Apartment
All on-campus housing owned by Clark University is furnished. You can review what is included in graduate housing on the Residential Life and Housing website.
Note that Clark-owned, on-campus graduate housing is full for the spring 2015 semester. For additional information or to see about being placed on a waitlist, please contact the Residential Life and Housing Office.
If you have elected to live in non-Clark owned, off-campus housing, you will have to check with your landlord about what is included in your apartment. Some apartments come fully or partially furnished (with a couch, bed, chairs, tables, etc.), while others are pretty much "empty." All apartments should come with a refrigerator, stove/oven, and possibly a microwave. If your apartment is "unfurnished," or does not come with any furniture, you will need to purchase what you would like from local retail stores or thrift stores.
If you have a lot of luggage and would like to ship some of it prior to your arrival in Worcester, you can ship boxes through a certified carrier such as UPS or FedEx to the local UPS store in Worcester. Additionally, if you are arriving in Worcester early and will be staying at a local hotel, you can check with them about their policy for accepting packages for hotel guests.
Clark University cannot accept or store baggage. Please do not mail any packages or boxes to yourself on campus, or to any of the offices on campus (including the Graduate Admissions Office, the IDCE Department, or GSOM).
