Dylan is a 2011 undergrad Environmental Conservation Biology major. His main interests involve conservation and preservation efforts in endangered environments in order to protect and preserve biodiversity, as well as forest and stream ecology. In his spare time he likes to play Diablo II and WoW online with his friends. Currently, he is working on broadening taxon data from ferredoxin-dependent glutamate synthase genes in stramenopiles, viridiplantae, rhodophyta, and cholorphyta. Glutamate synthase (GOGAT) along with glutamine synthetase (GS) plays a central role in the regulation of nitrogen assimilation in photosynthetic eukaryotes. The goal of this project is to further analyze GOGAT evolution in order to provide insight into the history of endosymbiotic gene transfer events. |
