The Transition to Adoptive Parenthood Project explores the experiences of heterosexual and same-sex couples who are becoming parents for the first time. This study is headed by Abbie Goldberg, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Psychology Department at Clark University. The focus of this project is to understand couples' experiences during the transition to adoptive parenthood. Of interest is, How do couples cope with the waiting and uncertainty associated with the adoption process? How do couples balance the demands of work and family? How do couples' relationships change? These are just a few of the questions that this project will address.

Who can participate. Couples who are adopting their child are invited to participate. You will be interviewed before the placement/adoption of your child (1-5 months pre-adoption) and after (3 months after you become parents, and then again 2 years post-adoption).
