The Men's Experiences with Partner Aggression Project is an ongoing research endeavor housed at Clark University that is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Denise A. Hines, Ph.D., Clark University Department of Psychology, and Emily M. Douglas, Ph.D., Bridgewater State University School of Social Work are the lead researchers..

Our goal is to better understand the experiences of men who are in relationships with women who use violence.  Extensive research has shown that men are at risk for sustaining partner violence in their relationships, yet few studies have investigated their experiences, and there are few resources available to such men.  This is an under-recognized problem in the United States, and by conducting this research, we hope to provide much needed information on these men, their relationships, and their needs.

Our current research project focuses on men who have ever experienced aggression from a female partner, what their relationships were like, their current well-being, and the well-being of any children involved in these relationships.  If you are interested in participating in this survey, please click on the Click Here to Participate link in the left-hand column.

Between November 2007 and January 2009, we collected data on men who seek help for partner violence victimization through an online and phone survey.  Results from this past survey are continually being posted on this webpage as they become available, and results from our new survey will be posted as they become available as well.  Please check back regularly.  To be added to our mailing list and receive periodic emails alerting you to new results, please complete this form.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has taken the time to participate in our surveys.  It has been providing valuable and much needed information about men who sustain partner violence, and we have been working hard to disseminate our findings as widely as possible so that researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers become aware of the existence and needs of this under-served population.
