I’m involved in three different areas of research and teaching.
  • The first of these concerns our experience of feelings and emotion. What are feelings and how may we describe the difference between elation and joy, anger and hate? How are they related to action? I have thought a lot about this, and some ideas and publications may be found at the emotional experience link.

  • My second major concern is with how we may attain a world that is more peaceful and has more justice. Different ways to achieve this may be found on the links to our Peace Studies Program and Introduction to Peace Studies and Peace Psychology course. I have been trying to relate an understanding of emotions to collective emotional experience and the development of peaceful cultures and this and related research and publications may be accessed by the peace psychology link.

  • I have been involved in attempting to understand how we use our imagination, sometimes to reveal and sometimes to obscure reality. How do people come to believe in what they first must imagine (angels, atoms, and alien abductions?) Some relevant publications may be found on the imagination and reality link.
A number of the publications that are cited on the above links indicated are available on line. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
