Women in Print: Readings from works written by Worcester area women
Amy Richter, Clark University history professor, is author of Home on the Rails, in which she describes how railroads transformed American societyi, and in particular, expectations for women in both the private sphere and the public space of travel. The relation of women to this new public space, and the conduct of male and female strangers toward each other, had to be defined.
