Marsh Distinguished Lecture Series - April 1999

Joel Schwartz

Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard School of Public Health
"Particulate Pollution and Health Benefits of Greenhouse Gas Reductions"
Friday, April 9, 1999
Marsh Conference Room, Roundtable Discussion

Dr. Schwartz has focused his research on the health consequences of exposure to lead and air pollutants. He has studied the cardiovascular effects of lead exposure in adults and cognitive effects in children. Also, he has examined both acute and chronic effects of air pollution exposure. His recent research has established that exposure to fine combustion particles in the air at concentrations well below current standards are associated with a range of adverse health effects including increased respiratory symptoms, hospital admissions, and deaths. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship Award (1991) and EPA Silver Medals (1984 and 1986). He received a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1980.
