"Marsh and the Environmental Millennium"
Thursday, April 27, 2000, 4:00 pm David Lowenthal taught at University College London throughout most of the 1970s and '80s. An American who did his undergraduate and graduate work at Harvard University and the universities of California (Berkeley) and Wisconsin before gravitating to UCL, Dr. Lowenthal has been visiting professor at more than half a dozen U.S. universities, Clark among them, in the fields of landscape architecture, political science, environmental psychology, and geography. Among his works, David Lowenthal published an award-winning book. The Past is a Foreign Country (1985), on our attitudes to and relationship to the past. His new book, George Perkins Marsh, Prophet of Conservation, offers new insights into Marsh's many careers and shows his relevance today. |
