BLANK WALL SOLUTIONS

David

In the 2006 spring semester, Psychology major and Clark senior David Yoselevsky enrolled in George Gendron’s course, The Art of the New, after another professor recommended it. He had always been interested in small business and was told the projects the course required would be helpful for a second semester senior. When he got to the final project for the course, he chose to combine his interests in business and photography, and many evolutions later, his final project has become his business, Blank Wall Solutions, LLC.

Yoselevsky runs Blank Wall Solutions, an online fine art photography gallery which showcases work in a variety of styles, from New London, Connecticut. Although his business is for profit, Yoselevsky said “a big part of who we are is working with photographers, requiring no capital investment on their part, to launch their careers and seriously advance the standing of their photography career or hobby.” He added that “unfortunately, it’s often difficult for people creating and making art to make ends meet. If I can help with that, I will feel pretty good.”

In his course with George Gendron, Yoselevsky read many case studies that explored how other people and companies had surmounted obstacles. He said these helped him as he developed Blank Wall Solutions and overcame roadblocks. “As I reached those points, thinking about how other people analyzed their situations and overcame them gave me encouragement and ideas for my situation.” He said his experience in Gendron’s class helped bridge the gap between academia and the rest of the world. “I found the program to be more about thinking and problem solving, than about business–what’s going on, where are you in the situation, what could be done, what needs to be done, how should you be a part of it.”

Yoselevsky sees positive advancement in the future of Blank Wall Solutions. He feels that he has a solid, growth friendly plan and idea. His current goal is to see the library of images grow, both in volume and style, which will always be important to the growth of Blank Wall Solutions. There is also potential to expand into other forms of art, but for the foreseeable future, he will stay true to the original idea “connecting photographers doing great work with people looking for fresh, new and exciting images.”
