Kathryn (Katie) Powell (IDSC '2014)

Kathryn (Katie) Powell (USA) received a B.A. in Sociology with a Minor in Women's Studies from Rollins College. Her research interests include women and gender, community economic development, public policy and India. During her undergraduate career Katie worked for the office of community engagement at Rollins College as both a student coordinator and summer AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. She worked predominately on service learning activities centered around issues such as homelessness and gender inequality. Since graduating in May 2011 she has been an AmeriCorps Public Ally in Miami, Florida working on a Farmers Market initiative to promote SNAP (food stamp) use at local markets to make healthy, local, and organic food accessible and affordable to everyone. Katie was also an intern at a nonprofit called PICO United Florida working on public policies relating to foreclosure and health care. This summer, before coming to Clark, she will be an intern at the Women's Fund of Mississippi working on fund development.
