IDCE Students Profiles

Brian Seitzman (ES&P '2014)
IDCE Fellow

Brian Seitzman (USA) after working as a Silicon Valley recruiter for ten years, Brian returned to school and received a BS in Biological Science with honors from The Florida State University in 2007. His senior thesis was on the ecological relationship between a beetle, Bolitotherus cornutus, and the fungus, Ganoderma lucidum. He recently completed an MA in Biology at Clark with Dr. David Hibbett and published a paper on the evolution of trophic modes in a family of fungi, Hygrophoraceae, based on combined stable isotope and phylogenetic analyses. Brian has also been a volunteer tutor with the African Community Education project, where he worked one-on-one with resettled refugee children to help them succeed in Worcester public schools. He is particularly interested in the ways in which science is used, and sometimes not used, in making policy decisions that affect ecology and natural resources.
