Pam Kavaleski, CFM
GISDE/M.A. '00

1. Please describe your present professional position?

GIS Specialist. I manage a group of GIS staff working on the FEMA Map Modernization Program: www.mbakercorp.com.

2. What do you find satisfying about your position?

I enjoy learning about the new cutting edge technology that is being employed by the FEMA Map Modernization Program.

3. How did the GISDE program at Clark University help to prepare you?

The GISDE program prepared me very well by providing me the opportunity to work hands-on with projects that allowed me to see a GIS project from start to finish. I also really enjoyed the remote sensing component of the program.

4. Why should prospective students enroll in the GISDE program at Clark University?

I liked that the program has a focus on Environment and Development, especially after returning from the Peace Corps. The program really highlights the real life situations in which GIS and remote sensing can be used in developing countries.

5. What was the topic of your research while at Clark University?

Modeling Land Use and Nutrient Loading for the Onota Lake Watershed

6. Is there anything else you would like to add?

Another thing I really enjoyed about the program was the interaction with students from other countries and seeing the applications of GIS for projects in their home countries. As a RPCV I also really enjoyed that fact that the program has so many RPCV's in the program.
