The Comprehensive Skills Center

It is the vision of the Comprehensive Skills Center to improve lives by offering students alternatives to changed patterns and develop better critical thinking skills. By providing a project-based curriculum, it is our goal to enhance students’ ability to become self-motivated learners. Students will be assessed on mastery of competencies and portfolio presentations as an alternative to the traditional concept of structured seat time and grading systems. Many “at risk” students are mired in the belief that there is no better way. By providing these students with a quality education and a new opportunity, we are providing them with a vehicle for a better life. Through this improvement of the student’s self worth, we are helping to improve the community as a whole.

All students will be provided the opportunity to acquire basic skills and a myriad of advanced technological and research skills needed to compete in today’s educational settings and the world of work. By offering small, personalized learning communities to our diverse population, featuring a focus on the Habits of Mind, we will develop life long learners.
