Dawn Gedenberg and Nagraj Rao won 2nd Place in the Water Resources Specialty

Troy Hill won 1st Place in the Applied Geography Specialty Group's Graduate

Honors Thesis paper that he completed last year)
Paula Kiviranta won 1st Place in the Glenda Laws Undergraduate Paper Award,

(HERO-Pontius). 2006. Second place in the Remote Sensing Specialty Group of the
Association of American Geographers in the Student Illustrated Paper Competition
(all other awards to doctoral students). Paper title: "Quantifying
Categorical Associations using Sub-pixel Mapping."

2006. Best student paper from the Water Resources Specialty Group of the
Association of American Geographers undergraduate paper competition. Paper
title: "Adaptation to Climate Variability in Central Massachusetts: A Focus on

High Honors for HERO - Commencement 2006
Clark awards “highest honors” to its graduating seniors rarely. This year, the
HERO program has three graduating seniors among the University's highest
achievers.
- Graduating with highest honors: John Connors (first reader Gil Pontius,
second reader John Rogan) and Troy Hill (first reader Colin Polsky, second
reader Rob Goble)
- Graduating with high honors: Ryan Frazier (first reader John Rogan,
second reader Gil Pontius)
- Graduating Phi Beta Kappa: Rebecca Alper, a HERO alumna. Rebecca
also won the Clark award for Outstanding Social Science Student and received
a Fulbright grant for study in Spain next year.
