Virginia focused on environmental management while at Clark, and after graduating worked as a scientist at Bechtel National (formerly Bechtel Environmental, Inc.) in San Francisco, C.A. evaluating Superfund sites for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Region IX. After five years at Bechtel, she became part of Tetra Tech Environmental Management, Inc. She has worked there as an environmental consultant on several projects, notably for the U.S. Navy to characterize base closings for environmental cleanup.

A year ago Virginia became a stay at home mom, but she still conducts technical reviews and other support for Tetra Tech from home on a part-time basis. Marin County, where Virginia lives, has some of the highest cancer rates in the U.S. She's currently volunteering her time and expertise to help understand this problem.

Virginia advises students interested in environmental work to take classes in the sciences, something she wishes she had done more of when at Clark.
