Josh has lived what is many a geographer's dream: to work for the National Geographic Society. Immediately after graduating from Clark he worked as an environmental consult for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of the Environment. But beginning in July 1992, he started working for National Geographic Television, first as a production coordinator for Explorer and other NGS specials, and then as project manager/assistant to the vice president. As production coordinator his duties included traveling with film crews, providing on-location logistical support, conducting pre-production, stock footage and script research, and assisting the equipment manager. As project manager he designed, researched, and wrote proposals for online interactive projects, including an interactive tour of the White House, a tour of Washington's embassies, an encyclopedia of cultures, and the original National Geographic web site. He also researched and developed proposals for new television and feature film initiatives. From 1995-2000 Josh was interactive designer, creative producer, and content editor with Edwin Schlossberg Incorporated in New York City. There he created, designed, researched and wrote content and logic for interactive kiosks, physical activities for exhibits, and visitor experiences built for the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, The American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island Museum, Intel, and NASDAQ, among others. Recently, Josh co-founded ITVR Media, an interactive development studio for brand communications and consumer marketing initiatives. As head of the business development team, he pursued entertainment development and interactive marketing services contracts, managed proposals and sales presentations, developed partnerships with clients and business partners, and researched future opportunities, emerging technologies and trends. In response to the question "how does your experience as a geography major relate to your career path?" he wrote: "It opened doors, completely!" |
