Programs in which
students can earn four units of credit towards a foreign language major make
majoring or double majoring more than feasible, provided that first and second
year students start their planning and study of a foreign language early in the
day. Thanks to the possibility of
spending a semester, or even a year abroad, Clark students may reach the goal of
graduating with proficiency in a second language. We believe this should be the goal of any student serious about study in
an international field.
Clark offers a number of university-sponsored Study Abroad programs
because we recognize the absolute necessity of experiencing a foreign
culture as part of the language-learning process. For example, at the intermediate-language
level, students of Spanish spend a semester at the Tandem Center
in Madrid. Many return so enthusiastic about their semester in Spain
that they arrange to take another semester abroad. At the upper level,
students can select a program of studies at the University of Seville,
where they can study history, government, and a variety of offerings
in the Humanities. For study abroad in French, the Department enjoys a special exchange relationship with the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France. Our study abroad program at the University of Burgundy has been specifically designed to meet the needs of Clark students.
