His anthology The American Landscape, published in 1974, was a path-breaking book. Professor Conron has published essays in prestigious American Studies journals such as American Quarterly and The Journal of American Culture. His account of the picturesque was described as follows American Picturesque "is an important contribution to our understanding of nineteenth-century American culture."
