Letter from the Director
Dear Interested Student,
I am delighted to learn about your interest in education and teaching. I can assure you that at Clark you would have the
opportunity to learn to teach in an exciting environment on the leading edge of innovative teacher preparation and school
reform.
This is a tremendously exciting time for faculty and students at Clark who are interested in urban education. We are partners in teacher preparation with several elementary and secondary schools near Clark, programs that have received much regional and national attention. We are proud collaborators in the development of University Park Campus School, a grades 7-12 school a few blocks from Clark that serves students in the neighborhood. Many students from our programs are mentored there. Finally, we are the lead partner with the Worcester Public Schools in a national high school reform initiative supported by the Carnegie Corporation. As a result, students at Clark who are interested in teaching at the secondary level will work in schools that are striving to become models of urban education.
If you would like a program that is challenging and provides close personal support, that combines learning experiences in public school classrooms with experiences at the University at every stage, and that includes small classes and opportunities for teamwork and collaboration, then think Clark. If you would value a program driven by a commitment to making a difference in the lives of urban children and urban neighborhoods, Clark would be a great fit for you.
Check the pages on the Education Department and Hiatt Center for Urban Education for more information about our programs and activities.
Sincerely,
Tom Del Prete
Director, Hiatt Center for Urban Education
