The Hiatt K-17 Professional Development School Partnership

Integrated Professional Development and Teacher Preparation

The Hiatt Center annually sponsors a wide variety of professional development programs for members of the partnership, mentor teachers in particular, and the school district at large. These programs have involved hundreds of teachers and University students, many of whom work together side-by-side. Most programs, such as the "K-17 Curriculum Teams," join school and University expertise (arts and sciences as well as education faculty), and bring together theory and practice in mutually informing and beneficial ways. There are also conventional courses, many of which teachers take tuition-free. These programs are designed to help develop and sustain the professional learning community that supports the teacher preparation programs.
