1. Can I send in a photocopy of my TOEFL and GRE scores?
Yes,
you may send in a photocopy of your scores, but this does not replace the need
to have ETS send us an official copy. An original copy from ETS is required. Your
application will not be considered complete until the
official scores are received from ETS. 2. What
is the application deadline?
The deadline is
February 1. Your
complete application is due by this date.
3. When
will I know if I am accepted?
Late March/early April. The application deadline is February 1 and the
committee reviews the applications from mid. February to mid. March. The
committee will meet in late March to make their decisions and applicants are
made aware of the decisions via e-mail, with the paper work
following in the mail.
4. What
are my chances of getting a Teaching or Research Assistantship?
There are a limited
number of TA/RA positions in the Economics Department therefore the competition
is high. Preference in the award of Teaching Assistantships is given to
students in their first three years of study.
Teaching assistantships are awarded on the basis of merit and potential
teaching ability. Research assistantship positions, if available are not
usually awarded to first year students. Typically there are about 10
students in an entering class, of which only 3 receive TAs. Because the
competition depends on the applicant pool each year, it's not possible for us to
comment on your probability of being accepted or being awarded a TA.5. How
many international students are in the department?
For the 07/08
academic year 77% of our Economics PhD students are international.
6. What
tests are required and what are the minimum scores?
The GRE and TOEFL
exams are required.
The TOEFL score should be at least 600 paper based (or 250 computer based, 100
internet based).
We do also accept the IELTS exam with a preferred score of 7.0. The GRE doesn’t have a minimum because it is only one of several things
looked at for admission to the Economics PhD program. The average
scores for accepted students is: GRE V 523, Q 755, A 4.5 and TOEFL 619.7. What is the test
code for Clark University?
The code for Clark
University is 3279 and the department code for GRE is 1801. Department
code for the TOEFL is 84.
8. Can
international students apply for financial aid?
Financial aid is
available to ALL students--international and domestic. There isn't a separate
form for financial assistance, simply fill out the questions on the bottom of the front
page of the application. Many of our graduate students receive full tuition
remission (full scholarship). There are a limited number of Teaching/Research
Assistant positions, therefore the competition is high. Typically there
are about 10 students in an entering class, of which only 3 receive TAs.
Because the competition depends on the applicant pool each year, it's not
possible for us to comment on your probability of being accepted or being
awarded a TA.
