Christina Lafontaine

I have always been intrigued by the world of fantasy. When I was young, my parents would take me camping. We spent our time hiking and searching for unicorns, faeries, and other secret creatures amongst the trees and ferns in the forests of Washington. Along with my parents' encouragement of fantasy came their encouragement of art. I feel that I have finally come to a point where there is a merging of fantasy and art in my life and work

My work is very much for the viewer. I want viewers to be able to step into the world I have created and feel as if they are no longer in the same space or building they thought they entered. I want their perception of the space as they first encountered it to transform into a world that is different, one with fantasy and magical elements to it. I want them to begin to look at their own daily surroundings and realize that there may be more there than they originally thought.

There are defninitely certain places in our world that just feel different, whether it's from the ideas of fantasy that we are fed through movies and books, with mossy patches and knots in trees for faeries to live in, or whether it's something in the atmosphere that feels mystical in some way. Bringing this feeling to people, whatever feeling it may be, is the goal of my work.
