Apply to the Ph.D. Program

Applications are accepted for admission for January or August. The admissions committee begins reviewing applications for January admission on September 1st and for August admission on January 15th. Applications will continue to be reviewed after these dates although applicants are advised to submit material as early as possible.

  • Completed Application Form
    Application form may be requested by standard mail, email Chemistry@clarku.edu or
    downloaded here (PDF).
    The application form is a fillable form and can be filled using Adobe Reader X.
    The filled application form can be saved in Adobe Reader X or using CutePDF.
    Application form must be downloaded first in order to be filled out and saved.
    Do not fill out the form using your web browser.
    If you have difficulty using or saving the fillable PDF, a paper version of the application is acceptable mailed to the Chemistry Dept.
  • Statement of purpose
    In your statement, please indicate your reasons for undertaking graduate study,
    research interests, and the chemistry faculty member whose research is of interest to you.
  • Official transcripts
    Transcript's should be sent from all prior post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope with official college/university stamp across the seal.

  • Three recommendation letters
    Letters must be from the referees listed in the application.  The three submissions must be from academic persons competent to judge applicant's qualifications for graduate studies.
    Recommendations must be in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature clearly signed on the back of the seal.

  • GRE scores
    Scores must be sent directly from ETS (school code: 3279; dept. code: 0301).
    Please note that the subject area exam is not required, but is recommended.
    GRE scores in the 50th percentile or higher are desirable.
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS Test Scores (for non-native English speakers)
    TOEFL scores should be sent directly from ETS (school code: 3279; dept code: 62).
    Acceptable score requirements are as follows:
    iBT(Internet-based Test) – Minimum Scores:Reading 15; Speaking 16; Listening 16;
    Writing 17; with a Total Score of at least 78.
    PBT (Paper-based Test) – Minimum total score 620.
    CBT (Computer-based Test) – Minimum total score 260.
    IELTS minimum band score: 6.5
  • Application fee
    The fee is $60.00 made out to Clark University.
    Applicants submitting documents through e-mail should contact the department office by e-mail for information on payment of the application fee.
