Apply to the Ph.D. Program

Application forms for admission to graduate study may be requested by standard mail, email (Chemistry@clarku.edu), or accessed online (PDF).  Completed applications must be submitted in paper form.

Applications are accepted for admission for January and August.  It is strongly recommended that your application be submitted six months before your proposed entry date.  

Applicants must provide the following:

  • Completed Application Form.
  • Statement of purpose.
  • Official transcripts from all prior post-secondary schools attended.  Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope with official college/university stamp across the seal.
  • Three recommendations.  Recommendations must be in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature signed on the back of the seal.
  • GRE scores sent directly from ETS (school code: 3279; dept. code: 0301).  Please note that the subject area exam is not required, but is recommended.  GRE scores in the 50th percentile or higher are desirable.
  • TOEFL scores (for non-native English speakers) sent directly from ETS (school code: 3279; dept. code: 62).  Acceptable score requirements are as follows:
    iBT (Internet-based Test) – Minimum Scores:  Reading 15; Speaking 16; Listening 16; Writing 17; with a Total Score of at least 78.
    PBT (Paper-based Test) – Minimum total score 620.
    CBT (Computer-based Test) – Minimum total score 260.
  • Application fee of $60.00 made out to Clark University.
